Spring semester winds down

The end of the academic year is busy for many, but also a time to relax on Polk Place and soak up time with friends before the summer. University photographers Johnny Andrews and Jon Gardiner were there for it all.

As temperatures warmed, students took advantage of the pleasant weather to relax on Polk Place in between classes.

The annual BeAM MakerFest was held at Rams Head Recreation Center on April 28, providing a chance for students to showcase creations from class or personal projects, share ideas or research prototypes and learn more about entrepreneurial efforts.

Spring can bring surprises, too, like llamas strolling through Polk Place. Students took photos as Justin Schwartz (right) escorted the animals ahead of the upcoming 1870 Farm summer camp, which will be held in Chapel Hill for the first time.

For 37 years, the Carolina Blood Drive has helped over 120,000 lives. Donors from across campus stopped at the Dean E. Smith Center on April 30 to add to that count and support the University’s public service mission.

Everyone needs a break during finals. On May 2, Chancellor Lee H. Roberts and his wife Liza passed out coffee to students in the Pit to help get them through the last few days of exams.

    Carolina seniors participated in the annual tradition of climbing the Bell Tower on April 9. The event, sponsored by Carolina Alumni, had additional activities, including a mechanical bull.

    Tar Heels from a variety of cultures and backgrounds brought color to UNC Holi Moli on April 12. Also known as the festival of colors, Holi is a Hindu tradition that celebrates love, community and the arrival of spring.
